Observation details
Observed from a distance through the spotting scope for approximately 1.5 hours. Both birds were in the same cavity, and both had been observed in that cavity by others recently. There are hopes of documenting Alberta's first breeding record for the species. The distinctive tremolo vocalization was heard three times at lengthy intervals. At 19:59, the rear owl in the cavity appeared to push the other one out. The one ejected from the cavity had been sitting in the opening since we arrived.
