Observation details
First seen on stony bank near far end of ponds: behaviour typical wagtail, actively foraging on ground: rather skittish, often landing in a shady corner near overhanging pipe: face white with black crown finishing just before eye: black nape and sides of neck: mantle, rump slightly ‘off-black’: tail black with white outer tail feathers: wings black or near black with large white patch on scapulars: primaries broadly edged with white: underparts white with black pectoral band, the black apparently not joining the black on side of neck: flanks with greyish tinge extending under pectoral band: legs dark grey, bill and eye dark: Call only heard once when bird put up a metallic ‘tis-sik’: flight flow and undulating: identified as Motacilla alba leucopsis in eclipse plumage:
