Observation details
Large first cycle type gull in with Ring-billed on the exposed sandbar just off the point. Big white-headed gull with mostly unremarkable upperwing, dark trailing edge, and pale gray window to dark primaries. Pale head with pinkish bill and demarcated black tip. Mostly brownish/gray mottled wash below. First seen during the morning thunderstorms. I waited for a break in the weather, then waded out to the sandbar to get better looks at this individual. I watched it bathe and drink for a bit, then it lifted up and circled around the point, then headed west. Primary window was not distinct at first, because the bird was still soaked. But after a few shakes, the gray window was well seen. Viewed with 20x80 scope and photo'd.
