Observation details
Small pale wren first heard calling from a low blackberry thicket. We saw it fly out and briefly land on a small downed branch. We had mostly a front view and briefly from the side.Very pale supercillium, throat and breast,Darkest part of the wren were its wings and tail, the brown was not as rich a deep brown as a PAWR. Location: Up the steep path from the parking area, take the right junction. The wren was seen and heard on the right side of this trail about half way between the junction and the landing. First observed and reported on February 28 by Courtney Kelly Jett and Caleb Centanni. What a terrific sighting you two! This was a tough find: Three visits and 8+ hours of birding. We had actually just decided to head out when we heard a bird that sounded different. We got some recordings and some quick views of the wren. It had been in a small blackberry/brush pile. It flew to a green leaf deciduous tree in which we couldn't relocate it. We went back to the brush pile and sat aways from it hoping it would come back. After some time, we stood up to leave again. It had snuck back into the brush pile and started doing the chimp call again. Looking at the spectrogram, it looked like it could be the Winter Wren, but not convinced until we got several other opinions.
