Observation details
We first heard this bird on Big Sugar Creek Trail when we were about 100 yards away from the bird. On the first song, we both thought it was a really strange bird, and didn't really know what to think of it. Towhee was in our minds, but not an eastern. No eastern we have ever heard sounded like this, and even all the recordings we listened to didn't sound anything like it. When we played Spotted Towhee songs, it sounded way closer to this, and we got exited. When we finally caught up to the bird, and saw it we were disappointed to see it resembled an Eastern, but then hybrid crossed our minds once we realized that Easterns don't make this call. It was missing all the white spotting in the middle of the wing, so not a pure spotted. Oliver spent a good amount of time photographing and getting recording of it. Later on, we also listened to some confirmed SPTO X EATO songs on eBird and a few sounded very similar to ours. We can't confirm hybrid yet, but we are still looking into it...
