Observation details
Justin Lawson had reported a possible juvenile Snowy Egret or juvenile Little Blue Heron on Coes Pond. Later, Bette and I were observing Black Crowned Night Heron when this bird flew in. After observing for a short while it flew off again. Photos. We noted behavior - active foraging, more crouched posture than we had noted in recent Little Blue Heron sighted in Winchendon. We also noted bill had black extending up culmen, no dark feathers in primaries either in the field or in pictures, feet very bright. This bird did not have the wide-eyed, staring look about the eyes that the Winchendon LBHE exhibited (field mark from Sibley blog post). We concluded this bird is a juvenile Snowy Egret.
