Observation details
3rd cycle!!!!! First spotted from the car at 1:57pm straight out from 'the shelter' on the beach mixed in with a flock of gulls. Watched it for 40mins from a reasonably close distance before heading back to the car due to the brutal winds and horizontal hail. While sitting in the car I lost sight of it (2:40). I searched for 30mins up and down the shoreline until I refound it again in the same exact location, just out from 'the shelter', this time (3:10) it was feeding in the surf with mews and other larids. After 5 mins of feeding in the surf it headed north. I lost track of it after that and went to check Kye Bay to see if it would turn up there. No luck at Kye Bay (4:30). At 5:00pm Joachim B. joined and quickly spotted it north of Point Holmes out on a sandbar. We were able to approach to get some good photos, the bird was left undisturbed preening on the sandbar at 5:55pm when we left. First location ('the shelter'): (49.690336, -124.869151) Second location north of Point Holmes (sandbar): 49.697428, -124.858947)
