Observation details
Lifer. I heard a very distant, repetitive “too too too.” Not quite believing my ears, I retrieved a speaker and played a NSWO recording in the direction that the call had come from. Receiving no response, I turned around just in time to see a small owl swoop in and land on a low alder branch about 15 feet away from me at the edge of the parking lot. The owl was in poor lighting; the one detail I could make out was a white v-shape on the face between and above the eyes. The bird then gave several very quiet “toots” and flew out of sight. It then began calling louder and continuously from a short distance away. At this point I took the recording. Definitely unexpected here.
