Observation details
This bird was found by Jeff Leach in his backyard. His yard has a dense, tall cedar hedge and a black chain-linked fence dividing properties. The bird was found dead, approximately one foot off the ground with its head stuck in one of the chain-link openings. There is a shed close by that provides habitat for mice. It is likely this individual was hunting by ear and did not register the fence. In the process it wedged itself in the fence and unfortunately died. It may be significant to note that recently, a local development on a small fragment of habitat was stopped by local citizens. Efforts are being made to submit the specimen to the Royal Ontario Museum.
