NOTES: In an area where Miss. Kite is known to nest. Recorded this call without seeing the bird. High in a tree above a swamp. [Note on data sheet: PRD by D. Ross 25 Feb '97 "Maybe not Miss. Kite. Sounds like Redheaded Woodpecker."] BNA: "Kwirr" call is heard. CZ 23/02/2004. [Cataloged as Melanerpes carolinus, cut #19. So entered in database. - AF 07 July 2001] [Most of this is indeed the "Churr" Call of Melanerpes erythrocephalus, but there are five "Kwirr" Calls by M. carolinus (0:36, 0:38, 1:09, 1:33, 1:49). There is a "cryptic" stop-start at 0:19. Quality changed from 2 to 2-3 (at best, given that most of this is a different species) - CAM - 4 May 2005].
