Observation details
**rare | long staying individual, first found by John Lorenc on 6 Feb. Seen throughout the day feeding in the weedy patch on the restricted side of the fence, just beyond the edge of the parking lot. After awhile of foraging, the flock flew out and landed in the bushes closer to the parking lot, where they rested for ~30 minutes, allowing close approach. While here, the Hoary was quite vocal, giving frequent call notes. My attempt to record this with my phone was unsuccessful due to wind and non-birder noise, and the bird flew off just before I returned with my mic. Hoary showing classic field marks, which stood out well in direct comparison to nearby COREs: frostier overall appearance, especially obvious on back (when foraging on the ground). Short, stubby looking beak. Unmarked white on the lower back (only visible when wings drooped). UTCs almost completely unmarked.
