Media notes
Soft calls by the first adult female. I watched the bird's mouth open to verify that she was making the sounds. Recorded in a meadow near a loud brook, so there's considerable background noise. I cropped the file at the end and amplified it by 7 dB in an attempt to make the calls easier to hear.
Observation details
I found two broods along New Army Trail east of Cottonwood Lake #1: One brood with one adult and one chick at the New Army Trail/Cirque Lake Trail junction; and the other one in small meadow about 3/4 mile to the east. Photos of both and faint audio recordings of one adult female. The second adult crossed the Cirque Lake Trail only about 15 feet in front of me but I didn't see its chick until it flushed when I was only a few feet from it.
