Observation details
Definitely a surprise! Seen flying south on the Elson Lagoon side towards NARL. Managed to get one photo that shows the face well enough to ID. A large alcid, comparable in size to a Murre, but more "rounded" in shape than a Murre. All black (upper and lower parts) aside for a white face and golden-buffy "tuft". Vibrant orange bill with a duskier colored border where the bill meets the face. Dull orange/flesh colored feet and legs. *Very* cool and while not unheard of, definitely not what I was expecting. After looking through my photos, turns out a group of 4 "eiders" I had photographed were also a group of Tufted Puffins, bringing the total to 5.
