Observation details
*Rare.* Roughly equal in size to nearby Killdeer. Chunky in appearance, but flat-backed in feeding posture. Long, blunt bill, thick at base, no yellowish coloration, used to feed in a rapid up-and-down motion. Dark crown and lore enhanced whitish supercilium. Legs greenish-yellow. Bird appeared to be molting to non-breeding plumage, but some hint of orange speckling remained on sides. Streaking on flanks was thin and not pronounced. Best fit is an adult female of hendersoni subspecies. Poor photos taken in light rain shower conditions. Bird still present when we left the area.
