Observation details
Tiny hawk killed a White-Winged Dove in our yard! We did not see the dove before we saw the hawk eating it. After 10 minutes a congress of crows was attracted: heard at least 3 crows calling from nearby trees. Soon that was too much for the hawk, who flew off with its prey. Hawk definitely Sharp-Shinned, not Cooper's. Hawk was the same size as the dove (~12"), had solid gray nape with continuous color from crown to back, and short barred tail with squared tips. Please see photos; particularly, please note the photo where the hawk is bending low over the dove when the crows were calling, as if to hide the prey from the crows.
