Observation details
On the way back to Mysore, Karnataka returning from Bird Festival, Mollem, Goa, we wanted to visit Herkal, Alamatti Backwaters. Google Maps guided us to reach the place, but it was slightly away from the hotspot defined in eBird. The place we reached was habitat for a variety of birds. It consisted deep & shallow waters, dried lake borders, agricultural lands and a few bushes & trees. The place was infested with large mosquito like insects. It was quite a place for birding. There were a large congregation of Black-tailed Godwits swarming from one island in the backwaters to another. Unusual numbers of Drongos & Wagtails feasting on the insects. Black Drongos were found everywhere - on trees, on ground, in flight. Photographs added
