Observation details
One bird was sounding the word “Hello!” repeatedly, and the other was initially responding with quorks and knocking calls. At times, the vocal “Hello!” sound appeared to be coming from both sides of the path, but I never observed either of the birds moving, or heard them relocate. Either the bird switched sides of the path without my knowledge, or the birds were responding to one another by saying “Hello!”, which after some thought, may be the more likely case. The “Hello!” calls and responses were often timed too closely together from both sides of the path to appear to be emanating from one bird. This stereo effect made it harder to pin down the exact locations of each call. The audio is somewhat poor in quality and short in duration, but the calls can be heard.
