Observation details
First seen by Niven McCrie on 06/11/1988, subsequently with several observers on 07/11/1988: upperparts medium-brown, warmer than Greater Sand-plover (direct comparison): slight ‘scaling’ on wing-coverts, perhaps abrasion: size, slightly larger than Red-capped Plover (present) and noticeably smaller than Greater Sand-plover: black on side of neck not extending to mantle: lores not noticeably dark: in comparison with Red-capped showed more white on forehead: very active in bursts, ran frequently and hard to flush: legs showed greenish-tinge in some lights: in flight white wing-stripe contrasting with black coverts: Following another sighting on 10/11/1988, discussion about features of the bird as against Malaysian Plover: for Malaysian to have the black on the plumage it would be an adult bird and so show rufous on nape and breast-band: an overexposed photo showed a strong greenish-yellow tint to legs: reasonable exposure showed them grey: another photo with bird with Red-capped showed longer legs including femur than Red-capped: On 11/11/1988 there was a suggestion of rufous on the nape: also recorded 20/11/1988:
