Observation details
*rare, irruption. Feeding on Norway Spruce, traveling frequently to different trees. A mix of male and female-plumaged birds. All consistent with type 10 in the recordings, confirmed by Tim Spahr. Some deeper “toop” calls likely type 10 as well. Most appeared to have right-curved upper mandibles, but at least one photographed individual has a left-curved upper mandible, and therefore was facing right when feeding on the cones. Right-curved individuals were facing to the left. Holy Cross currently is closed to visitors not associated with Holy Cross.
