Breeding plumage. Black hood, Long reddish thick bill that slopes at tip, dark gray wings with white edging, white tail, underside and neck, partial white eye ring. Dark legs. Much smaller than Herring Gulls, slightly smaller than nearby Ring-bills. Bill color, length, thickness and drooping at the end, leg color eliminate Bonaparte's.
