Observation details
On a sand spit with a group of Doube-crested Cormorants. I had assumed they were all Double-crested, as did 3 other birders nearby, but we were delighted when the Father of California Birding, Guy McCaskie, joined us with his scope and positively identified the Neotropics. They were smaller than the DC, had black bills. I could not see the tell-tale “V” shape on the throat, but Guy was positive of this ID, and that is good enough for me.
