Media notes

Recording taken by John Patterson and confirmed as Pacific Wren after comparison with recordings of both Pacific and Winter Wrens on library recordings.

Observation details

Our group of 12 birders from Saskatoon Nature Society photographed and sound recorded a small wren with short tail. Photo of one bird taken by Nick Saunders is at https://www.flickr.com/photos/nikovich/27649972395/ on internet. Recording taken by John Patterson is attached. Song spectrogram attached shows that song matches Pacific Wren and not Winter Wren. Location is about 100 meters from start of Whispering Pines Nature Trail. Bird observed at less than 2 meters. We observed 2 birds interacting. It is possible that more than 2 are near this location. Agitated behaviour in response to playing of song recording.
