Observation details
One of these is classic with the yellow green bill. The second is controversial, but I am now ready to concede to Jim Thomas who thought it was a Western all along. To me, the bill was the orange color of Clark's and adult non-breeding Clark's do not have the eye surrounded by white. However, as Jim pointed out the flanks have too much gray and not enough white. I was completely swayed when I looked at my distant digiscope photos and saw the photo of the amount of black on the back of the neck...perfect for Western. In my photos, the bill does not look as orange as it did to me through my scope, but still more orange than I usually see in Western Grebe.
