Observation details
Continuing adult. First spotted over the ridge to the northeast as I was walking north towards the dam; later flew low overhead when I was standing near the base of the debris basin dam with a dozen Turkey Vultures perched around me. Flight style and general coloration like Turkey Vulture. When first seen at a distance in flight, I was surprised that I could subconsciously pick out this bird as being "different" even at a distance. The bird appears smaller next to a Turkey Vulture, with distinctly darker underwings owing to the barring and dark trailing edge on the wings, and with bright yellow feet. When it flew low overhead, the black head, big yellow hooked bill and dark terminal band on barred tail were more clearly visible. Photos.
