Observation details
(Brown?) Medium-sized tern with brown upper parts and under parts. Did not observe head or bill as bird was flying away. Mostly flying close to water, sometimes as high as 15'. Buoyant flight; appeared to be feeding or searching for food. We tried to get close but lost sight of the bird in the choppy seas and spray. Wind 15-20 knots from SW. Distance 200 m. This bird looked the same color as Brown Noddies seen in years past, but not really seen well enough to rule out 1st summer Black Noddy.
