Observation details
Pair! Single bird seen in flight at beaver dam. Flew to east side and disappeared. Later two birds came out, a pair based on behavior. They swam around briefly then retreated into the marsh. Both birds, coot-like but with brownish upperparts, bright red bill with yellow tip, and white line along upper flanks and slightly smaller size, thinner neck. Also gave a few vocalizations, a high piping Sora-like peek! Also a nasal descending series, suggesting coot but more whining and nasal. Also a single husky, coot-like grunt.
