Observation details
We decided to take a drive out to see if we could find the Bittern this morning. We looked up and down that stretch of Brooklyn St. for about a half hour with no luck, and were just about to call it quits, when we heard it's vocalization! We walked a short distance down the road, and there it was...! We couldn't have asked for it any better: it was standing not far from where we were on the road - in broad day light, completely unobstructed by vegetation etc., which gave us an amazing opportunity to observe, enjoy, and capture some lovely images of this beautiful bird. Watched it forage, and it was really interesting/neat to watch it sing (almost humourous, if you've ever seen it!), which my son got even got on video. After 10 mins or so, it flew right in front of us, over the road, and landed in a flooded ditch area on the other (closest to Hwy 101) side of the road - still plainly visible. A memorable experience. Thanks to George, John, Luke and the others who reported the location of this bird.
