Observation details
Walked out east of slough and spotted Mountain Plover across the estuary on the north spit. We took a couple photos and ran back to get access west of the estuary. We initially could not relocate the bird and decided to walk north to look for it up the beach. We met Sally Hill and Diane Pettey and easily relocated the bird feeding on the beach north of the Snowy Plover nesting area. It was actively foraging while we took photos for 10 minutes. It was mostly solo but was occasionally joined by Sanderling, Dunlin and a lingering Western Sandpiper. It is likely wintering at the site and may fly south of the river where it would be much harder to access. Medium sized plover similar to a killdeer in size but with no collar and a lighter shade of brown. Leg were pale. Slight darkish wash across chest. Bill dark. Did not see in flight.
