Observation details
Continuing bird . I first noticed a somewhat different, slightly larger bird flying behind some LALOs, which then diverged and landed. I alerted Greg Chapman, and after (quite a bit of) our searching that spot he got on the skylark and we confirmed and studied it on the ground. I was able to get some video, and pull some stills. The back was noticeably scaly which set it apart from the pipits nearby. The bill was longer than a longspur’s and heavier than a pipit’s. The facial pattern was distinct, dark surrounding the auriculars and eye, giving a pale eyering effect. The band of breast streaking was heavier towards the neck and bend of the wing. It was very skulky on the ground, using the sparse cover to great effect.
