Observation details
continuing bird. thought ahead of time that Yellow-billed was substantially larger than Common but didn't really look bigger in real life. Did look lankier and almost an anhinga type look as it sat in the water with its beak a bit upturned. head shape different but general pale face also quite different from Common. Beak pale to straw-yellow depending on light. nicely patterned (but faded) on wings, much more so than winter plumaged Common. hunting actively mostly near far bank, Glaucous-winged Gull tried to steal crabs it caught and YB Loon would actively dive to escape from the gull. Then would loaf in water and get to mid-channel or even closer. Super satisfying.
