Observation details
Unexpected place to find this life bird, but I guess an irruption year is a good time to start birding. Flock of about twenty flew over us on the trail, just past the pony overlook. Calls appear to be a match for “type 1”. Poor recording TBA. Birds landed high in conifers and foraged in the pine cones. It was difficult to make out crossed bill from our distance but I did get one good look. Both males (dull brick red with dark wings) and females (similar but yellow) were present.
