Western Wood-Pewee with round head.
Observation details
Two of the Western Wood-Pewees looked and sounded just like they should. One, however, through us for a loop until I examined the photos at home. See the attached photo below. Usually I see a peaked head on a Western Wood-Pewee ... this one had a nice rounded head. We were trying to turn this into an Empidonax flycatcher. I suspect it just had not raised its crown at all. Otherwise, it does show the characteristics of a Western Wood-Pewee: no tail wagging or flicking at all; very thin eye ring; lower mandible almost entirely orange; very long primary projection; wing bars not well developed; dusky breast. Of course it would not cooperate and give any calls to make its ID easy.
