Observation details
First heard soft fluid "whit" calls and said, "what the heck, that sounds like a Dusky Flycatcher". Moments later I saw a bird fly in and perch prominently on a small stump before losing it for quite a long time and eventually relocating. A slender mostly dull yellowish passerine with slightly greenish mantle and mostly-gray head, larger and lankier than nearby kinglets and with a unique upright posture. A larger but still small and flat flycatcher bill, mostly dark with some pale orangish on the lower mandible. Fairly bold eyering, 2 fairly bold wing bards on wings that were darker than the body. Short primary projection and long tail. Typical flycatcher foraging behavior, sitting still on each perch until flying out and re-landing on a new perch. Sometimes pumping the tail slightly. Near confluence of Clearwater River and Beardy Gulch. From upper hog island boat ramp restroom continue east 200m in clearing (across row of rocks) and look for large trees with orange paint on north side of clearing. Was initially seen here and then flew west. Later relocated just 20m NE of the outhouse, and eventually moving back east across the north-south part of the loop road.
