Observation details
When I walked into the dining room and glanced out at the feeders, I stopped dead in my tracks upon seeing a White-winged Dove, a species I've seen numerous times in Texas! I grabbed the binoculars to make sure it wasn't an aberrant Mourning Dove or something else, noting the distinctive white border on the lower part of the folded wing, a small dark mark below the eye in the malar region, the overall brown color (no spots as on a Mourning Dove), and a square tail that was white underneath on the distal 2/3 or so. I then grabbed the camera, zoomed in, and got off one shot through the French door windows before the dove flew off. At 11:50, it returned, landing on the feeder pole long enough to take a few more photos. It then flew to the top of a closer feeder (one photo) and to the ground (a few more photos), then away. I did not see it again, although Aaron Stutz found it two blocks south of here a couple of hours later.
