Kentucky Warbler, Galileo Park, Kern County, California on 14 May 2016, Tom M. Edell
Observation details
singing male found by Dan Cooper. We heard this bird singing and first saw it perched in the based of an oleander. After photographing it there, it moved east to the base of a cottonwood where it fed on the lawn below. It moved between the lower cottonwood branches and the grass. This warbler was bright yellow below and had a dark green back and wings. The crown was black with fine gray blotches. The yellow face and a dark line that extended from the bill to below the eye and back to behind the eye where it broadened below and continued down the side of the neck. The black on the side of the neck did not seem solid and well defined along the back edge suggesting this might be a second-year male.
