Observation details
Observed foraging in understory along Heron Flat Trail about .6 mile from parking area. Small Myiarchus with ashy gray breast, yellow belly. The bill is too small for a Brown-crested and the bird itself was too small. The brightness of yellow and intensity of gray are attributed to this bird being in fresh basic plumage (when Ash-throats are their brightest).. I included a close-up of the tail and the pattern showing the sepia brown wrapping around the tail end of the tail feathers is an Ash-throated field mark. Brown-crested just do not have this brown on end of tail. Rufous in tail restricted in inner veins of outer rectrix. Not calling. Somewhat furtive behavior as it foraged.
