Minus my wood furnace on and off...
Observation details
I went out to fill up my wood furnace and heard the male. I looked and found him in the empty lot beside my property in the top of a maple tree. Then the female exploded into sight and flew (seriously) about 10 feet over top of my head into one of my white pine trees. It was the most spectacular owl sighting I have ever encountered. I could see her legs and feet dangling, the grand size of her body, and massive wings (again, about 10 feet above me!!!). They called back and forth to each other for quite some time. I ran in the house to get my binoculars and camera. I recorded them for almost 10 minutes. She flew off across the street into a large conifer, and he joined her. I watched them with my binoculars. They kept hooting back and forth about a foot and a half from each other in the very top of the tree. I could even see their ear tufts. She was bending over, facing away from him, and hooting - trying to lure him. I started to walk up my driveway to get a better recording, but they both flew off back to my side of the street into the woods. They were still hooting back and forth when I went into the house, because I got cold. I swear sometimes I don't know how I get so lucky to hear and see such wonderful things.
