Media notes
Pygmy Nuthatch peeps, and Hairy Woodpecker drumming. Main Divide Rd., near Los Pinos trailhead, Orange County, CA.
Observation details
Heard the peeps in the same place we had this species a few years ago, about a quarter-mile down the road from the trailhead/parking area. The bird stayed fairly high in the pines along the road. No photos but good looks - small nuthatch with a brownish-gray cap that extended to the eye, whitish underparts, upperparts a steely blue. Moved along the branches in typical nuthatch style, but spent most of its time probing tufts of needles. Recorded.
