Observation details
Continuing bird first found by Brian Sandstrom. When I arrived the bird was standing on the "Pelican island" of the pocket pond. after about 10 minutes the bird took fight. Very funny to watch the bird run for a good three seconds while flapping its wings before finally getting off the ground. The bird flew out over the ocean before circling back and eventually landing in the far pond of the oil fields. Then after about 20 more minutes or so the bird took off for a final time flying north towards Seal Beach. The identification of a Juvenile Tundra swan is based on several factors. Can be separated from MUSW by lack of any bill knob at base, and distinguished from TRSW by more curved edge of bill base.
