Observation details
Distinctive adult. Noticeably smaller and slimmer than the gannets in the area. Uniform chocolate brown upperparts including rump, white belly strongly contrasting with the clean border of the dark chest, extensive white in underwing coverts, and yellow bill. Flight style and flight posture notably different from the surrounding Gannets. Glided on sturdy, slightly bowed wings with shoulders pushed forward making an M. Stronger flaps than Gannet. Body mostly held at a more level position vs the arched tern-like position of a Gannet. Deeper chested and slimmer waisted instead of hefty undercarriage of a Gannet. Never directly associated with gannets and other than a few interactions with gulls it flew alone. Photos
