Observation details
Continuing bird. The gull slightly larger than the surrounding california. The bill is yellow with a red gonys spot and and black specks one third of the way down from the tip. The eye is pale, and the head is white, with much finer streaks the the surrounding herring gulls. The feet are a bright yellow, brighter than the surrounding ring billed gulls. The primaries are black, with three visible white spots and a white tip when perched. Between the back and the primaries, the wing has a white border, making a pattern of white, black, white. The back is a very dark grey, but not as black as the primaries. The tail, when in flight or preening, is a clean white. It has repeatedly been drinking water, more so than the other gulls nearby.
