Observation details
On October 12, 2009, Pat Martin reported a "possible" Purple Gallinule from the day before, at the south end of Quaker Pond in Mendon Ponds Park in Monroe County, New York. I followed-up on this report, on October 13, 2009 and found this 1st year Purple Gallinule. The bird had died within minutes prior to me finding it. The bird was still warm, completely lax, and glassy eyed when I found it, but cold and the eye closed by the time I walked back to my car with it. Specimen sent to Cornell's Lab of Ornithology.
