Northern Flicker (Yellow-shafted x Red-shafted) - Rodeo Lagoon, Marin County, California, USA - December 1, 2020
Observation details
Male - vocal and frequenting cypresses around the Marin Headlands Native Plant Nursery/Nature Bridge Campus. Deemed a intergrade Red-shafted x Yellow-shafted albeit very much at the Yellow-shafted end of the scale, based on the slight maroon tint to the edge of the mainly black malar. Otherwise, this individual aligns with Yellow-shafted Flicker brownish/flesh colored face/throat/neck, red nape cresent and no hint of red or orange in the wings/tail with a hint of pale yellow. Photos. Comments welcome.
