Observation details
Updated: one of the main identification points is call in attached audio. I originally thought it was a Brown-crested call though it seemed softer and less explosive than the huit calls I've heard from Brown-crested in the past. After reviewing call notes from Ash-throated on xeno-canto, I found some similar recordings to the call notes I heard in field including this one. https://www.xeno-canto.org/540021 The bill seems too small for Brown-crested and after reviewing photos from Hans Gonzembacher taken later in the day, there is dark brown coming across one side of the tail end. The bird also has a whitish throat. Based on these traits, I'm going with Ash-throated.
