Observation details
A raft of Red-breasted Mergansers was seen swimming at the far east end of the lake. I had very distant but decent scope views and was able to get some very long distance yucky photos (at maximum range of my camera). They appeared to be females and/or first winter males -- had shaggy wispy double crests, brownish head and neck (not rufous as in female Common Mergansers), the brown on the upper neck was more blended with the lower neck (no sharp line), there was not a well defined white chin, the bills were thinner at the base than those of a Common Merganser.
