Observation details
Initially did not know what this bird was. It was seen at our feeders 3 times between 9:30 a.m. and noon (seen twice by me and twice by Diane). Not until I saw the great pictures posted by John Doty and Mark Schwan that I believed this was possibly the same purple finch they observed. Features I noted were – stubby large bill (triangular), dark brown streaked upperparts, very light-colored breast with large dark streaks, dark ear patch, no streaking on undertail coverts and a very large white supercilium. My photos are terrible but might possibly aid in verification. Additional note: This bird has been noted by others as a female Eastern race Purple Finch. Some characteristics noted in this determination is a large white supercillium, distinct streaks above, white underparts with bold streaks and bill shape.
