Observation details
Cont from previous day. Initial report by Sandy Remley. Monitored almost continuously for 3+ hrs, hoping in vain to hear it vocalize, but it remained silent. Upper and lower mandibles malformed or broken near base; left leg may also be injured as it frequently seemed to loose its balance while perched and flutter to to regain balance. Date and orange stub of lower mandible were initial cause for investigating if Western or Eastern Wood-Pewee, but nothing in photos or visually on follow up visit suggested EAWP over WEWP. Its stubborn silence over three hours and total indifference to discrete use of broadcast recordings of vocalizations by both species left its identity unresolved.
