Observation details
Pair grazing on Thomas Island; 8 geese on Cull Island. The western race of the Cape Barren Goose (Cereopsis novaehollandiae grisea) is uncommon, and breeds on the granite islands of the Recherche Archipelago. Cape Barren Geese are monogamous, and pair for life. They are grazers, eating grass, seeds and stems and can survive on brackish water. These geese were on Cull Island off the coast of Esperance – the video footage is shaky as the sea was rough on the day of our visit. The goose drinking from a seep is accompanied by a Pacific Gull.
