Observation details
**Irruption year. Males and females in Norway spruce tree feeding. Conservative estimate of flock. First observed half a dozen feeding in a spruce tree, heard a couple more, but when I played the calls for comparison it triggered a big flock to pick up and fly around. I made a recording of the flock and a few individuals that sounded like Type 2. Another six flew by later. *update 10/10/20 Matt Young listened and thinks they are Eastern Type 10 with possible Type 2 present. I’m updating species type from generic Red Crossbill to reflect this more accurately.
