Observation details
Very rare on Sandy Hook; flyover over Salt Pond within small southbound (actively migrating?) Canada Goose flock; small “white-cheeked” goose, stubby neck and head/bill, wings narrower proportionally, slightly more rapid wingbeats than surrounding Canada Geese; presumably “Richardson’s” (B. h. hutchinsii) based on range (expected ssp.) plus size/proportions and plumage but considering the views today plus the overall messiness of white-cheeked geese in general I’m happy to not pursue this bird beyond species level; photos.
